Stylish is a word that springs to mind when you think of the Island of Mykonos. Perhaps this is synonymous with it being known as an up market party island. The most famous party beaches are The Paradise and Super Paradise beaches to the south of the island not far from Chora the main town on the island.
These beaches are well developed with excellent beach and bar facilities to be enjoyed by party animals young and old. Like all of the many beautiful beaches of Mykonos they are blessed by crystal clear waters and fine sun kissed sandy beaches. There are many such beaches to be enjoyed on the island of Mykonos many much quieter than the famous party beaches and perhaps more suitable for families. The busiest, particularly in the months of July and August are in the south. However the beaches to the North are quieter and less developed. Hire a car or bike and travel across the Island so that this part of Mykonos can be explored. It should be remembered that this part of the island is famous for its naturalist beaches where nude bathing is accepted. Most beaches also have the advantage of being in close proximity to fine bars restaurants or Taverns where food and drink with a traditional and International flavor can be enjoyed.
The island of Mykonos has a cosmopolitan and international atmosphere which is reflected in the main town of Chora. Here you will find many chic bars and restaurants to be enjoyed. Whilst the narrow cobbled streets painted blue and white reflect the traditions of Greece the shops are filled with up market goods and artifacts.
The island of Mykonos is placed almost in the middle of the Aegean and is one of the Cyclades being situated 150 kilometers east of Athens it lays near the island of Tinos. Syros Paros and Naxos. Its immediate neighbor is the island of Delos famous for its Archeological excavations. A short boat trip will take you to this island where excavations continue and you can see the famous Lions of Delos and other historic sites.
We must not forget the famous windmills, built by the Venetians as flour mills. They remain a very distinctive part of the Mykonos landscape. With its wonderful beaches and crystal waters, its cosmopolitan atmosphere and sunny climate it is little wonder that visitors return year after year. Indeed many a celebrity has indicated that it is a favorite holiday destination.
