In the old city you will find many sites of interest including the Egyptian Obelisk and the open air Roman Hippodrome site of Chariot races for centuries.

Visit the famous Blue Mosque of Istanbul or to give it it’s formal name, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. The Tokapi Palace once the home of the Ottoman Sultans, a World Heritage site and now an impressive Museum should be included in your ‘things to see list’ as should the iconic Hagia Sophia a religious home for Greek Orthodox Christians Roman catholic and Islam worshippers for many centuries but now the home of the Basilica museum with its mosaics.

These sites can be found in or near the area of Sultanahmet but a short walk will take you to the Grand Bazaar There is an abundance of historic sites and things to do in this city including enjoying a Turkish tea or coffee on a sidewalk café or enjoy a splendid fish sandwich in a restaurant on the Golden Horn which is an historic waterway and the primary and busy inlet. It is a horn shaped estuary which joins the Bospherous Strait where it meets the Sea of Marmara forming an a narrow peninsula separating the historic centre of Istanbul from the rest of the city and which takes the traveller to this ancient city.
